How to prepare for an intimate wax

How to prepare for an intimate wax

Intimate waxing has become the norm as more men and women want a cleaner fresher feel ‘down there’ but if you are new to the wonders of intimate waxing, this blog will definitely explain how to prepare for an intimate wax.

Waxing is not a new thing, in fact, it has been around from the early Egyptian times when the thought of pubic hair was deemed uncivilized and the ancient Greeks saw a hairless crotch as a symbol for the upper classes.
Beeswax was used back then and seashells were used for tweezers.

Fortunately waxing has come a long way since then and the once painful chore of hair removal has now turned into an experience.
Queen B are waxing specialists, our experienced and qualified team are there to ensure your waxing is as painless as possible so whether you are a regular wax fan or if it is your very first wax, you are in safe hands.

We are delighted to partner with Perron Rigot for our wax products,  the inventor of disposable strip wax, a global leader and innovator and with a history spanning more than 80 years, you can be guaranteed an excellent experience.

My first intimate wax

How to prepare for an intimate wax

If this is your first wax and you are used to shaving, it is essential you put down the razor at least 2 and a half weeks before your visit, this allows adequate time for your hair to grow at least ¼ inch to ½ inch (If you have coarser hair, it should be at least ½ inch).
If you have shaved or waxed with less time and have an appointment, please call us ASAP so we can reschedule your appointment.

If you are preparing for your holiday or a big event we recommend to do a trial run first at least a month before to see how your skin reacts and how long it takes to settle. It also allows most of your hair to be in the same stage of the hair growth cycle for your next treatment in 4 – 6 weeks, meaning you will get much longer before regrowth.

It is always a good rule of thumb to always have an intimate wax one to two days before an event, even if you’ve been waxing for years.

The week leading up to a wax, exfoliate the area using an exfoliating scrub, if possible try and do this every other day in the week before your treatment but stop at least 24 hours before your visit.

Exfoliating will remove any dead skin and help to lift the hairs away from the top layer of skin allowing them to be picked up by the wax easier. We love the Double Exfoliation Scrub from Perron Rigot

If possible it’s a good idea to bring a clean change of underwear, especially if you’re not going straight home afterwards. Open hair follicles are much more likely to become infected, and the first 24 hours after treatment are critical to avoid this happening. Sweat and chlorine can both increase the likelihood of open follicles becoming infected so please do not swim or workout within 24 hours of your treatment.

Before the treatment, you’ll be asked to fill in a thorough consultation form, please remember to list any medications you are taking. You will be surprised what can affect your skin’s sensitivity and let us know if there is anything we should be aware of. (Pregnancy, skin tags, recent operations/surgeries etc)

If you are a little nervous that a Brazilian or Hollywood wax will be uncomfortable, then it might be worth taking 1 – 2 paracetamol half an hour before treatment, especially if this is your first wax.
If you know your skin is quite sensitive or reactive, another alternative would be to take an anti-histamine to reduce redness.

Also, avoiding caffeine for a few hours before an intimate wax can help reduce discomfort. Caffeine heightens nerve ending sensitivities, which is exactly the opposite of what you want to be doing before a hair removal session!

Does the time of the month make a difference when waxing?
Sometimes. You’ll be most comfortable on the fertile days of your cycle as this is when your pain threshold is at its highest.

Can I wax while I am on my period?
It is absolutely fine to have a wax during a period, sometimes it is unavoidable. It’s worth noting that some women find it more uncomfortable but have no fear, we can still wax you.
If your skin is healthy and you can wear a tampon, then you can get waxed.
However, wearing a menstrual pad to your appointment isn’t recommended.

We always want to ensure that we are being as safe and sanitary as possible so it is safer to use a tampon to reduce any exposure. Please be aware should you not feel comfortable waxing while on your period to give us as much notice as possible so we can do our best to fill your appointment space and not charge you for cancelling last minute.

Please shower before your visit

Obviously you want to feel *fresh* for your wax appointment, so it is essential to pop in the shower before your visit.
Our therapists need to work down there and we request your arrive clean – If you have not had time to shower before your visit, please book in a shower slot to avoid embarrassment.

Post-wax, we recommend you don’t shower for 24 hours minimum as while the hair follicles are exposed, they’re more prone to infection and irritation and hot water will make it worse.

Male intimate waxing

Our therapists are fully trained in male intimate waxing so please try to relax, we know it can seem a bit weird but we have seen it all before.
If it is your first time and you would like to discuss your wax before booking, please do let us know.

All treatments are carried out by our female staff however if you feel more comfortable having a conversation with a man before your visit, this can be arranged too.

If you are having any type of intimate waxing you will be required to remove ALL clothing from the waist down for a perfect wax.
Please do not make a complete fool of yourself by asking for ‘extra’s’.

ANY inappropriate behaviour will NOT be tolerated, and if at any time the therapist feels uncomfortable you will be asked to leave and you may be reported to the police.

This is the first wax I have had in almost 2 years and I have been reminded why I prefer this to shaving.
Was the most painless wax I have had and so quick as well.
I will be back! x

I’m quite shy so don’t always start up conversations and the therapist didn’t make me feel awkward by not chatting at first, but when we did chat – she was super lovely and made me feel very comfortable!
