Your first wax and how to prepare

Prepare for your first wax

Now is the time to begin to prepare for your first wax. In fact, this blog will also help you are yet to experience waxing and would like to know how to prepare for it.

How to prepare for your first wax

First of all, if you are new to waxing, read this blog, Waxing at Queen B, this will introduce you to waxing and all the amazing benefits of regular waxing.

Waxing can be a bit daunting but don’t worry, every wax therapist at Queen B is a specialist.
Please let us know if it is your first time so we can add a little extra time to your service.

If you are used to shaving, it is imperative that you stop shaving at least 3 and a half weeks before your visit.
Never shave in between wax appointments

This allows adequate time for your hair to grow at least ¼ inch to ½ inch (If you have coarser hair, it should be at least ½ inch).

It’s time to prepare for your first wax.

Why is hair length important?

The reason we need hair to be a certain length is so we can ensure the hair is completely removed from the root.
To measure, simply grasp the hairs and pull them up.
If you are unable to grasp the hairs without also pinching your skin, they might not be long enough yet.
Please do not grab the hairs too abruptly or you may risk accidentally pulling them out entirely.

This is really important because the wax needs to stick to the hair to successfully pull it all out from the root. If the wax doesn’t adhere correctly, it might break the hair in half and will probably cause skin irritation or ingrown hairs.

Ensuring correct hair length will benefit future waxes too. When you make sure that all the hairs are removed on the same cycle, they’ll grow back at the same time, too. Read more about your hair growth cycles.

Please be aware that if your hair is less than ¼ inch long, you will probably need to reschedule your appointment so it can grow a little bit more. Please allow at least 48 hours notice to avoid charges.

If in doubt, please call us and arrange a quick consultation so we can advise you before booking.

Will all hair be removed on my

first wax appointment?

Waxing is very rarely perfect for your first wax due to the way hair grows and the 3 phases of hair growth.

To be removed successfully, hair has to be growing in the first phase (anagen stage).
It’s not until your 3rd or 4th visit that waxing will be completely effective, as by this time most of the hair will be in the same growth phase.

We definitely recommend you do not shave for at least three and a half weeks before the wax appointment to enable the wax to work at its best. Please do not pick up a razor during your wax appointments.
