Finding time for self-care can be challenging, especially if, like me, you lead a busy lifestyle. However, even small acts of self-care can make a significant difference in overall well-being. As a someone who leads a ridiculously busy lifestyle, these are some practical self-care tips that help me:

Schedule Self-Care Time:
Set aside dedicated time in your schedule for self-care activities, whether it’s a daily meditation session, a walk in nature ( I love Croham Woods), I also take my dog so he can get some exercise too, a meal at a favourite restaurant, even on your own to gather your thoughts, reading a book in a quiet space or even a weekly pamper.
Keeping active and getting your heart rate moving are a must.

Practice Mindfulness:
Incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine by focusing on the present moment and paying attention to your thoughts, feelings, and sensations without judgment.
Keep a journal of reflection, this helps as a boost to look back on.

Take Short Breaks:
Throughout the day, take short breaks to recharge and reset.
Step away from your work or responsibilities for a few minutes to stretch, breathe deeply, or enjoy a cup of tea.

Prioritise Sleep:
With a small child, this can be challenging but I try to make sleep a priority by establishing a consistent sleep schedule, creating a relaxing bedtime routine, and ensuring my sleep environment is conducive to rest.
Set a reminder on your phone when you should go to bed, it’s easy to watch one, two or 3 more episodes of whatever on Netflix and before you know it, it’s 2am and your 8 hours you promised yourself is reduced to only 5! Top tip, hot water with fresh ginger is always a great way to wind down your evening.

Keep a gratitude journal:
Trust me, this is where the magic begins. List 10 things you are grateful for that day, it could be as simple as being grateful that the child slept in her bed or for the food you ate. Try to keep it different every day and think about the small things that you are grateful for. You have heating, you have food, and you have a bed. Not everyone does. That’s gratitude. It’s also very powerful to look back on months later to see how you have grown in your gratitude.

Nourish Your Body:
Eat a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins to fuel your body and promote overall health.

Stay Hydrated:
Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated and support optimal bodily function. Add some fresh lemons for added benefit. Coffee, wine and gin sadly doesn’t help keep you hydrated.

Most of all be kind to yourself and practice self-compassion, especially during times of stress or difficulty.
